Clear Contest is a standard set of rules in Versus Mode. It is essentially a modified version of Tug-of-War without garbage.

In Clear Contest, the battle bar is present, and begins at a size of 70. Players only have a single life. Because Clear Contest does not have garbage, the only way to win is to use clears to reach your opponent's side of the battle bar. Additionally, Clear Contest adds a bonus for making chains. Instead of only pushing the battle bar by the amount of blocks cleared in a move, the chain size (minus one) will be added. This means that a 2-chain will add 1 to the amount, a 3-chain will add 2 to the amount and so on.

Turbo mode is an option available in Score Attack and Versus Mode which causes petals to move twice as fast, and halves the amount of delay between a match being detected and the pop animation. For some Score Attack modes, this also changes the points required for each rank.

Turbo mode does not affect the play speed of any standard AI, and does not affect the amount of time any AI spends thinking. It may slightly affect the play speed of the skull, which otherwise only uses the minimum possible delay between moves.
Nova is a squirrel who debuted in the NES homebrew game Nova the Squirrel, and is an animal mascot platformer character. She's in Petal Crash because her creator programmed Petal Crash Online. While she does not have a Sacred Blossom, she is associated with the starflower/borage.

Nova is not available when playing Story Mode. When controlled by a computer, she selects a random playstyle from one of the base characters and switches to another random one every 30 seconds, referencing the ability copying she does in her games.
